I was reminded this morning of how universal the temptation is to lust. By universal, I mean that we all are susceptible to that particular temptation. All of us. This is one of those sins that we will continue to battle until the day we are with Christ in heaven.
I was freshly encouraged by this article by John Piper this morning as I came across it in his Resource Library. I would encourage every guy reading this post to make time to read this article, and read it today if at all possible. We need to have set before us a continual reminder of both how deadly sin is and how much more infinitely powerful was our Savior’s death on the cross for this deadly sin. So please read.
Two things I so appreciate about Piper’s ANTHEM:
1) How cross centered it is. It doesn’t assume we have the power in ourselves to overcome this temptation. It reminds us that trust and delight in the completed work of Christ on the cross is the ammunition that we need to defeat lust.
2) He is so practical in giving us real ways to deal with lust. He reminds us to be quick and direct with the temptation that lust brings to us.
So as you read, be reminded of the sin that Christ died for – your sin. Find hope and freedom and delight in the cross, in Christ who died to give you hope and freedom and infinite delight.
Let’s join together and sing afresh the ANTHEM of our Savior’s grace.
