Planting a Seed

Last night at Pivot we heard an excellent message from one of our pastors at Lakeview Christian Center, Jeff Ehrhardt. He talked about the zeal of Christ, and one of the things that he said was that Jesus was zealous to make God’s glory primary. And many during Jesus’ time on earth (and many now during our time) made primary what was really supposed to be secondary. One way we make God primary is by spending time daily in His Word and in prayer. Practicing the spiritual disciplines can be one of the hardest things to maintain. We don’t see immediate fruit. But we make God primary by practicing these in our lives. Today’s post is from Girl Talk and is about the practice of spiritual disciplines.

“The practice of the spiritual disciplines is a little like planting a seed.”

In this post, Janelle Bradshaw shares with us a great analogy comparing our spiritual disciplines to planting a seed. This will be great encouragement for you as you grow in practicing the spiritual disciplines. It’s a lot of waiting! Waiting for the seed to grow. You don’t see growth in a plant the same day you water it, and it can feel like the watering isn’t accomplishing anything. And I’m sure we can all relate that to our daily prayer times. We don’t always leave our quiet times fully growing in all that we’ve asked the Lord for and communed with him about. But it is watering. And as we water each day, we wait, and water again the next, and the Lord will do the growing. So we hope this encourages your “watering” for today as you make God primary by spending time in His Word and in prayer.
