Donald Carson is undoubtedly one of the great scholars of our day. What I’ve recently discovered through listening to panel discussions and messages of his is that he is also humble, tender-hearted, and passionate about personal evangelism.
During a panel discussion at the recent Desiring God Conference (2006), Carson took a moment to encourage faithful pastors who serve in small local congregations, unnoticed, unappreciated, and in large parts of modern evangelicalism, “unsuccessful”. Carson begged to differ with this modern trend and tearfully encouraged these men, calling them to consider God’s pleasure in their labor. It was poignant and raised Dr. Carson higher in my already strong esteem for his ministry and leadership in the church at large.
But, at last, I don’t know him that well. Here’s a word of commendation from a ‘friend’ of ours and a friend of his – Mark Dever.
