Getting in on the emerging conversation

If you’re into Christian magazines or travel through the blogosphere, you’ve probably heard something about the “emerging/emergent conversation.” Well, the conversation is getting louder and I think it’s increasingly important for Christians to track with it and be able to intelligently contribute to it. However, it is a conversation that can be rather confusing.
Enter Mark Driscoll: a radical pastor who has been in on this discussion from the outset and has helped bring clarity to the emerging picture of what it looks like for the church to engage our postmodern culture.
In this Desiring God video interview, Driscoll helps us understand the difference between ‘emerging’ and ‘emergent.’ Though brief, it is very helpful in outlining some of branches or schools of thought within this discussion.
The ‘missional’ emphasis of this movement is one that deeply resonates with me. It syncs up beautifully with what we see in Jesus and in the early church and, therefore, taps into the primal roots of Christian faith. That’s why I think this conversation is getting louder and if you’ve not heard it, perhaps this will get you more acquainted with it.

Good stuff Matt! I’m definitely on the same page as Mark Driscoll.
