Family Fall Fest

Dear Church family,

It’s Fall Festival time again! This year it is on Monday, Oct 31st, from 5:30-8:30pm. It’s going to be filled with all sorts of fun (inflatables, crafts, games, and candy) and educational activities! Did you know that Oct 31, 1517 was the date that God used Martin Luther to spark the Protestant Reformation? Since the Fall Festival is on Oct. 31st, we will use this fun-filled, celebratory event to teach our children some of the history and theology of this great movement of God in the history of the church.

If you’d like to be involved in this fun-filled, educational event, here are some ways:

  1. Be excited
  2. Pray
  3. Be there
  4. Bring your kids
  5. Bring your neighbors
  6. Bring a dessert for the dessert contest
  7. Volunteer in some capacity!

Here’s some info to know:

  • Dessert Contest: The two categories of the dessert contest this year will be Pies and Cookies. Contestants will need to have their dessert there by 6:30p that night to register it for the contest. If you bring cookies, please bring a dozen. Pies should be about 8 inches.
  • Volunteers: Everyone can find some way to be of service! If you would like to volunteer, click here to sign up.
  • Giveaway. Register to win a free Sony Portable DVD Player!

Thanks, and God bless.

Old Testament Survey: The Unfolding Story of God & His People

Old Testament Survey: The Unfolding Story of God & His People

The Old Testament comprises 77% of the Bible. That means that our grasp of Scripture has everything to do with our grasp of the OT. Who came first Moses or Sampson? What do the OT covenants have to do with the coming of Jesus Christ? How do the details, genealogies, and stories of the OT fit into the big picture of God’s plan to redeem a people and to establish His kingdom? Join us for a 9 week exploration of God’s glory and His promises as they come to us in the pages of the Old Testament. Taught by Matt Mason in Rm. 200, beginning on October 16.

Getting to the Heart of Parenting

Getting to the Heart of Parenting

Parenting is more than using your power to get children to behave in certain ways. Parenting is all about the exposures and change of the child’s heart. When the heart of a child changes the behavioral change that is needed will last. Learn how to be an instrument of heart changing grace in the little moments of life that God will give you with your children, whether they are toddlers or teens. Join us for this video series taught by Paul David Trip in Rm. 202, beginning on October 16.

Islam A to Z

As Islam continues to be the fastest growing religion in the world, it is imperative to not only understand Islam and its followers, but it is also key to know how to question and answer Muslims. Islam A to Z with Dr. James White is an educational and Christian apologetic event that will take place over two evenings at Lakeview Christian Center in New Orleans.

The first evening will focus on what Islam is and what it isn’t. Historical background and factual data on Islam will be shared, addressing common myths and misunderstandings, with a Q & A session at the end of the evening. The second night will focus on what to say and what not to say to Muslims. Dr. White will explain common Islamic arguments and theology as well as how to respond to them, with a Q & A session at the end.

Register online here.

We Believe

New Pivot series

We Believe: Timeless Truths in a Changing World

“Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:3). In our postmodern times there is great suspicion about any claim to know the truth. Many hold that there is no such thing as objective truth – truth that is true for all cultures and all people. The quest for truth has been replaced by the autonomous quest for that which is “true for me.”  We’re witnessing the triumph of the ‘I believe’ over the ‘We believe’.  The Pivot (our college/young adult ministry) is beginning a new series, one which seeks to reclaim and celebrate the truths of Christian faith. One which hopes to train us to stand firm in the faith, to worship the God of our faith, and to contend for the truth once for all delivered to the saints. New series starts August 21.

Motherhood & Matters of the Heart

Join us for a breakfast workshop on August 6 for mothers of infants, toddlers, and pre-school children. Gina Collins will be speaking on the issues of life that mothers face as they walk through the season of raising children in these early years. If you are in this season, are about to be in that season, or know someone who is, please join us or encourage those you know to join us for a time of encouragement and strengthening mothers for these years in their calling. The day will begin with breakfast at 9:00a. If you are planning to attend, please sign up at the Welcome Center. The cost of the seminar is $7, which will be collected the morning of the event.

A Workshop for Change

The School of the Word will take a brief summer break until August. Our next meeting will be on August 7, when we will begin a new class. It will be called “A Workshop for Change,” using Tim Chester’s book You Can Change: God’s Transforming Power for Our Sinful Behavior and Negative Emotions as a companion resource (which can be purchased from the bookstore for $11). More information coming soon!
