Innumerable wars have been fought by countless men. There are always hostile forces involved and the stakes usually include a fight for freedom or to throw off the tyranny of enslavement or of being controlled by an enemy. Men of every generation have fought for their own lives, as well as the lives of their wives, their children, and coming generations. The images of human wars fought in the natural serve to illustrate what a Christian knows to be true in the spiritual. There are hostile forces to contend with and there are stakes to fight for in the kingdom of God. Oxford defines “a call to arms” as: “a call to defend or make ready for confrontation: it is understood as a call to arms to defend against a takeover” …Here is the reality of living in a fallen and spiritually hostile world: You will either take up arms and fight …or you will be taken over!
